GameChange Solar scores big in Southern Africa with over 500 MW solar projects
GameChange Solar just bagged a massive win in Southern Africa. They’re set to supply their Genius Tracker solar trackers for four huge solar projects, totalling over a mind-blowing 500 megawatts (MW). That’s some serious power play right there.
So, what’s the scoop? Three of these bad boys are going down in South Africa. One’s part of the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Program (RMIPPP) in the Northern Cape. Then, there are two more projects powering up for some heavy-duty mining action in the Northern Cape and Limpopo regions. These projects aren’t just about power; they’re about making sure those mines keep on trucking while going green.
GameChange Solar is also taking its game to Zimbabwe with the first phase of the 185 MW Zimplats solar plant. This baby is all about juicing up the Zimplats platinum mining operation, and it’s set to start pumping out power by the end of May 2024.
What’s super cool about all this is how everyone’s pitching in. It’s not just GameChange Solar; it’s a whole squad effort! Private companies, government agencies, and energy bigwigs are all teaming up to make this happen.
And GameChange Solar isn’t just dropping off equipment and bouncing; they’re here for the long haul. They’ve just announced a brand-new training and service centre for their Genius Tracker products in South Africa. Talk about commitment to the cause.
According to Derick Botha, the Chief Cool Officer (CCO) at GameChange Solar, “Southern Africa is ready to flip the script on its energy game. With these solar projects, especially in South Africa, we’re looking at kicking the fossil fuel habit and moving to cleaner, greener energy sources. We’re stoked to have a local team and our new training centre in Cape Town to help push solar energy forward in the region.”
