India’s RE sector needs a major talent boost by 2050
Pradip Kumar Das, the big boss at IREDA, just dropped some serious knowledge at the 39th Indian Engineering Congress in Kolkata. He’s all about that Renewable Energy (RE) life and says India needs over 10 lakh extra engineers by 2050 to keep up with the global vibe.
Right now, India’s got around 1 million jobs in the RE game, but globally, we’re talking about 16 million. By 2050, we’ll need a whopping 43 million jobs worldwide, with 8.5 million right here in India. That’s a major glow-up.
Das broke it down: the RE sector will need about 20% engineers and researchers, 50% skilled workers with some training, 25% semi-skilled peeps, and 5% marketing and admin folks. Basically, we need a whole squad of talent to make this happen. He’s pushing for a 5-step plan to boost awareness, skill mapping, training, job matching, and a solid migration strategy to attract global talent.
But wait, there’s more! To hit India’s climate goals by 2030, we’re looking at a massive investment of ₹30 lakh crores from FY 2024-2030. IREDA has already pumped over ₹1.36 lakh crores into green projects and sanctioned more than ₹2.08 lakh crores. They’re also leading the charge with cool financing options for new RE tech like Ethanol and EVs.
Das wrapped it up by saying IREDA is all in on making India’s Green Sector thrive, aiming for a 10-15% slice of the renewable debt financing pie. Let’s get it, India.
