Iran Prez & FM die in heli crash; India declares state mourning
Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, and their Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian passed away in a super tragic helicopter crash. This is like mega sad news and India is showing major respect by declaring a one-day state mourning today, May 21, 2024.
Flags are gonna be at half-mast everywhere and, guess what, no official entertainment today. It’s a total respect mode day for these big-shot leaders.
The crash happened on Sunday in some foggy mountains, and now everyone’s trying to figure out what went wrong. Raisi was seen as a possible successor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, so his death is a massive shocker.
Iran is having a bunch of mourning days and the funeral stuff starts today in Tabriz. They’re doing prayers and processions. Then, they’re moving the bodies to Qom and then Tehran for big ceremonies at the Grand Mosallah Mosque. There’s a public holiday on Wednesday for this.
Raisi’s body will end up at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad with Ayatollah Khamenei doing the prayers there. It’s all pretty intense.
No clue yet what caused the crash. They’re saying maybe fog, but they’re not ruling out other stuff either. Turkey tried to track the helicopter’s signal but found nada, so they think maybe the signal system was off or something.
Iran’s military is now on it with a big investigation. And, breaking news – Iran is gonna have presidential elections on June 28.
