RTA & Etihad Rail join forces: Next-gen ticketing solutions on the tracks
First Deputy Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail, recently witnessed the inking of a cool Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Etihad Rail. This was a big move made during the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, and it’s all about upgrading the UAE’s ticket booking and fare payment scene using RTA’s nol system. This move fully supports the UAE Digital Government Strategy 2025 and the Dubai Digital Strategy, which are all about upgrading tech and making things more streamlined in Dubai.
So, here’s the lowdown: Sheikh Maktoum shared that this MoU is all about bringing federal and local entities closer together. It’s gonna open up a whole new world of ticket booking and payment systems for Etihad Rail’s passengers all over the UAE. Think about it— this is gonna bring RTA’s transport tech and Etihad Rail together, giving the UAE a super advanced transportation system.
Sheikh Theyab was also excited about this partnership. He was all about uniting efforts between Etihad Rail and RTA to bring in smart tech and solutions. This is all about ensuring Etihad Rail’s passenger trains are top-notch— safe, reliable, and comfortable, in line with global standards. This, he says, is all thanks to the UAE’s leadership who’ve helped the national railway network quickly become a standout in the region.
The agreement was signed by the bigwigs— His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, and His Excellency Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail. These two are now set to make sure this partnership between Etihad Rail and RTA is all about taking passenger trains to the next level.
The end goal? A safe, reliable, and convenient travel experience for everyone hopping on the UAE’s national railway network. And this partnership is a key step in achieving that. Plus, it’s a nod to the UAE’s status as a key regional and global transportation hub.
The nol card is also getting a facelift as part of this new partnership. It’s going digital, and this is gonna make moving around Dubai and other emirates a breeze. And don’t forget about the cash— now, you can leave that behind, because digital payment tech is all the rage.
