UK turns up the help for Yemen: Big aid boost announced

So, the UK’s going big on helping Yemen. The Foreign Secretary just dropped some major news after chatting with Yemen’s Prime Minister in London.

Yemen’s been in a mess for like 9 years now, and things are super rough. The Houthis took over back in 2014 and have been causing all sorts of drama—blocking aid and messing with oil and shipping, which has made everything way more expensive and harder to get.

Kids under 5 are really struggling with malnutrition, and more than half of the people there need help ASAP. But now, the UK is stepping up in a major way. They’re increasing their aid by 58% for the next financial year, tossing in £139 million through groups like WFP and UNICEF. This will help feed around 8,64,000 people and support health facilities treating 7,00,000 severely malnourished kids.

Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron is all about getting the world on board to help fix things in Yemen. He’s calling out the Houthis for making things worse by blocking aid and attacking ships, which is pushing up the cost of everything.

Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak is super grateful and wants to see more than just aid. He’s talking big plans for investments in energy, agriculture, fisheries, and manufacturing to boost the economy and create jobs.

Both leaders are also talking about a long-term peace plan with the UN to finally end the conflict.
